UPSTREAM/DOWNSTREAM PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVE
The Great Outdoors Foundation is committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders across our region to identify actionable objectives and positively impact the condition of our waterways in Central Iowa. Our primary method of influencing change, outside of fundraising for our partners, is through advocating for our waters through our Upstream/Downstream Partnership Initiative.
Research and roundtables with industry, rural, public stakeholders; and current water quality initiative audit.
Research Summary Report created, identifying challenges and opportunities for upstream/downstream water quality.
Opportunities from Report organized into three task force categories: Implementation, Education/Outreach, & Funding.
Task Force Contributors meet twice to identify which opportunities to be priority projects.
Priority projects in each task force category are shared with potential entities and organizations for ownership.
Priority projects are shared with public departments (such as IDALS, IEDA) for further ownership and appropriations.
We are Central Iowa’s pathway to sustainable, healthy environments.
In order to fully activate Central Iowa’s green capital, the region needs a leader and catalyst for conservation and outdoor recreation. That’s where we come in. The Great Outdoors Foundation aligns visions, convenes partners, and builds frameworks that yield high-impact projects like ICON Water Trails and the Raccoon River Pedestrian Bridge.
We are the foremost fundraising professionals in the conservation and outdoor recreation sector. Together, we activate meaningful, accessible initiatives that enhance our environment and improve quality of life.
