BUSINESS RECORD: Great Outdoors Foundation Awards Grants to Reduce Nitrogen in Waterways

The Great Outdoors Foundation has awarded grant funding for nine projects and programs through its Conservation Acceleration Fund. The selected initiatives will mitigate about 34 million pounds of lifetime nitrogen from Iowa’s waterways, according to a news release. Selected projects are located across the state, including Boone, Dallas, Hamilton, Johnston, Polk and Scott counties. Practices include a variety of conservation solutions including bioreactors, cover crops, grasslands, saturated buffers and wetlands. Some of the grant funds are also being used to support holistic interventions such as regenerative agriculture strategies and conservation agronomist training.
